Dawn Fry Photo Seniors

Cedar Park High Class of 2011 | Austin Senior Photographer

I have to tell you, I am a tall person.  (don’t be scared) 😉  In high school, the girl’s basketball coach chased me around for 2 years begging me to be on the team. What he didn’t know was that, while I am graceful walking down the hall or rapidly taking a flight of stairs two at a time to get away from him, I am not a runner.  There was no way I would ever be able to outrun someone while dribbling a ball and also fend off others trying to stop me. No sir, sports were not for me. But, when you are 6′ tall and skinny, people usually assume you are athletic.

So, I never knew what it was like to play sports. I had a letter jacket, but it was covered in patches from choir events. Now *that* was popular, let me tell you! (not)

I was overjoyed and totally thrilled when I found out that the senior I was shooting on an uncharacteristically cold day in May was into sports! I had wanted to do a senior session for a long time that involved working with an athlete and I eagerly awaited the day I got to meet Spencer.

But to say Spencer is an athlete is a bit of an understatement! Not only does he play football and basketball, he is captain of the basketball team!! At least, that’s what his letter jacket told me. 😉

But what stood out to me with Spencer at the start is how tall he is. Now, again, I am a tall girl. But whoa! My 6′ self had to look way up to see him! He made my old truck look TINY! (and yes, I was standing on a step ladder to get this angle from above)

Aside from Spencer’s height and obvious athletic ability, what really makes me happy is what a sweet and polite young man he is.  After days of gloriously warm and inviting weather, the day of Spencer’s senior session the temps dropped about 30 degrees. We were all freezing out there! But he handled it like a pro and didn’t complain…to much. 😉 Though I noticed he opted to keep his jacket on for most of the session.

After some great shots out in the woods and on the road, I took Spencer and his mom out to one of my favorite water locations. I think, with such a long drive, they may have thought I was taking them over to the next state!  I was a bit saddened that there wasn’t a lot of water. The drought has really dried up my little creek and the levels were nowhere near what they were at Courtney and Katy’s sessions. But we made the best of it. It was too darn cold to actually get in the water, so Spencer was a great sport for all the “next to the water” positions I put him in. I think it was more suited to his personality anyway. What do you think?

Oh yeah, I think so too. He rocked it! 🙂

Thankfully the rocks along the sides of the creek made for a nice backdrop as well.

Spencer, you were such a joy and a good sport and I loved our session together! I hope you enjoy the photos and I wish you all the best this coming year in college.

So, what is YOUR story?
